Garlic Harvester

A garlic harvester is an essential agricultural equipment in our daily life. It is mainly used to harvest garlic, which can help improve working efficiency and reduce labor. We offer various types of garlic harvesters, including self-propelled, tractor-trailed, and walking-behind models. For more details, please contact us.

Working Principle

Working Principle

The working principle of the garlic harvester primarily involves cutting, digging, conveying, soil separation, and collecting, achieved through the coordinated operation of mechanical components for automated harvesting. First, the plant support device stabilizes the garlic plants to ensure they remain upright during subsequent operations. Next, a power-driven digging disc excavates the garlic, pulling it out from the soil. The excavated garlic is then clamped and conveyed backward by a clamping conveyor device. During the conveying process, the soil removal and alignment mechanism, supported by rotating brush rollers, aligns the garlic bulbs and removes soil attached to the roots, effectively separating the soil from the garlic.

When the garlic stems reach the meshing point between the circular cutting blade and the blade slot at the end of the conveyor, the stems are cut off. The stem-throwing device then transports and scatters the stems onto the field. The garlic bulbs drop onto the chain system of the root-cutting device, where high-speed rotating multi-blade cutters trim off the root hairs. After multiple passes through the cutting blades during movement, the trimmed garlic bulbs are finally delivered to a collection bag or box at the end of the chain.

The 3 types of garlic harvester

The 3 types of garlic harvester

  1. A self-propelled garlic harvester is a machine that combines digging, soil separation, cutting, and packing.  It suits the customer who has a large-scale farm land.
  2. A trailed or front harvester needs to match a tractor to work together. It has a very simple structure and is also lower cost.
  3. Walking-behind garlic harvester has a small volume, and the operation is flexible. If you have a small land area or you are in a hilly, mountainous area, it can definitely meet your needs!

Feature Box

Shallow Digging Design
Shallow Digging Design
Since garlic has shallow roots, the harvester uses a shallow blade design to avoid digging too deep, which could damage the cloves or fail to extract the bulbs.
Low Damage Rate
Low Damage Rate
Most machines use vibration to shake off soil instead of aggressive scraping, which helps protect the garlic skin and roots. Some models are equipped with flexible conveyors or rubber rollers to prevent impact damage.
Leaf-Intact Harvesting
Leaf-Intact Harvesting
Garlic often needs to be dried with leaves attached. The harvester can preserve both the above-ground parts and bulbs neatly, making it easier for drying, braiding, and other post-harvest handling.
High Efficiency, Low Labor Intensity
High Efficiency, Low Labor Intensity
Garlic harvesters automate the entire process—digging, soil removal, conveying, arranging, stem cutting, collecting, and transporting—through mechanical arms and conveyor systems. Compared to manual harvesting, efficiency increases by 5 to 10 times while greatly reducing labor intensity.
Strong Adaptability
Strong Adaptability
These machines are suitable for various soil types like sandy loam and loam. Most models allow adjustments in height, digging depth, and vibration frequency to accommodate different garlic varieties.

FAQ

Find anwers for your questions
01
When is the best time to harvest garlic?

The main harvest time for garlic is usually from late July to mid-August, during which time the underground bulbs are dug up, pickled, and stored for consumption during the colder months. It’s easy to tell when garlic is ripe – just look at the shape of the plant.

02
How to dry garlic after harvesting?

Drying. After picking garlic from the field, move it to a well-ventilated place away from rain and direct sunlight. After the garlic is moved indoors, the garlic heads and roots should be cut off immediately and placed in a garlic box or on a well-ventilated table.

03
How to control the damage rate of machinery?

The reasons for the damage may include excessive excavation depth, fast conveying speed, and worn cutting blades. Firstly, you need to adjust the excavation depth (8-15 centimeters) to avoid damaging the garlic.
Then choose a flexible conveyor belt (such as rubber material) to reduce friction.
Finally, regularly replace the cutting blades (recommended once every quarter) to maintain sharpness.
