Step1. Pre-cleaning

Do you know? During the harvesting, threshing, and drying processes of rice, various impurities such as large stones, weeds, and partially cleaned straw inevitably mix in. Even small dust particles can be present. The first essential step is pre-cleaning these larger impurities. If they are not removed beforehand using a vibratory cleaning sieve and specific-gravity stoner, hard stones and long straws can damage subsequent processing equipment. Pre-cleaning is crucial before moving on to the next steps of processing.

Step2. Dehusking or dehulling

In the process of rice milling, this is a crucial step. Inside the machinery, unseen to the naked eye, rubber rollers in the hulling machine frictionally press rice grains regulated by flow, separating the husk from the rice. The husks are blown away by a fan, leaving the rice grains behind. At this stage, you’ll notice the rice is a light yellow color, it is not milling rice, known as brown rice.

Step3. Paddy separation

After passing through the hulling machine, some rice grains that were not successfully hulled were mixed with the hulled brown rice. At this point, you need a gravity paddy separator to handle this mixture. You can see that the sieve surface of the gravity paddy separator moves back and forth. Due to differences in friction coefficient and size, the rice grains and brown rice on the sieve surface are separated into unhulled rice grains and successfully hulled brown rice.

Step4. Bran removal

Next is the “whitening” step for the rice. In a rice abrasive whitener machine, the emery rollers will grind the husked brown rice, removing the outer layer known as bran, or bran layer. The material that is ground off is called rice bran, which is the light yellow part on the surface of brown rice. The process of bran removal also removes the germ part. Step5. Polishing

Polishing is done by the mist-polisher to enhance the appearance of rice. The polishing of rice can be divided into two steps. Second, the rice is polished under pressure and at a certain temperature using polishing rollers. This process makes the starch gelatinize and the rice grains smoother, covering any cracks that may have occurred during processing. Step6. Grading

Step7. Color sorting
